Koshare - Chokwe Dancer Figure
By
Madeline Corey-Thomas
Tribal Images
This figure is composed of leather and/or fabric mounted upon a wooden base. It is embellished with feathers, horse-hair and snake vertebrae. It is inspired by both the "African Chokwe Dancer" and the "Native American Koshare" or clown. Versions of this figure appear in both cultures. I have chosen to simulate the mask only. (Approx. 15" by 5")
Each doll or figure is one of a kind within a series. All are hand made and as such each one is unique. Colors and textures of materials will vary.
